Quad Rock 25 & 50 Mile Trail Races : Lory State Park and Horsetooth Mountain Park

The event takes place on trails west of Fort Collins, Colorado, using routes in Lory State Park and Horsetooth Mountain Park. The course is well marked with flagging, flour ground markings, and directional arrows; confidence flagging appears on long trail stretches.

Distances:

  • 25 miles with about 5,500 feet of ascent
  • 50 miles with about 11,000 feet of ascent (two loops)

Course details include minimum, maximum and average elevations of 5,444 feet, 7,087 feet and 6,200 feet respectively. Terrain is reported as roughly 85% singletrack and 15% dirt road. Wildlife observed in the area includes Abert squirrels, deer and black bears. Field limits are 450 entrants total, split as 200 for the 50 mile and 250 for the 25 mile.

Aid stations are staffed and mostly fully stocked; two locations are listed as water only or limited aid. Drop bags are allowed at the Horsetooth Trailhead and at Soldier Canyon. Course cut-off times are enforced at Soldier Canyon, Arthur’s Trailhead and Horsetooth Trailhead; runners who miss certain cut-offs on the 50 mile loop may be recorded with a 25 mile finish time but become ineligible for 25 mile awards.
