Portmarnock Beach 5K Race

Portmarnock Beach 5K Race, also called the Ice Cream Race, takes place on Portmarnock Beach on Friday 28 August 2026. The event uses the sand for both start and finish and includes separate races for children, juveniles and seniors.

The event features these races:

• Kids Colour Dash: age 8 and under, free entry, sign-up on the night
• Juvenile 2 km: ages 9 to 15, entry €7.50 plus booking fee, pre-registration required
• Senior 5 km: entry €25 plus booking fee, free t-shirt for first 500 registrants

All competitors must wear an issued race number to compete. Numbers can be collected on the night or sent by post if postage is paid when registering. A limited number of late-entry places may be available on the day for the senior race at the registration desk; these entries do not include a t-shirt.

A bag drop will operate under "the shelters" on the beach; small bags only and the race number must be shown to leave or collect items. Pay parking is available at White Sands and limited free parking is available at the Beach Carpark beside the Golf Links Hotel; participants should follow parking marshal instructions. Public toilet facilities are available on the beach.

Senior prize awards are offered for male and female finishers: first €150 each, second €100 each, third €50 each. Placed seniors aged 40 and over have a first prize of a €50 Lidl voucher.
