Porkies Wilderness Races

The Porkies Wilderness Races take place September 19, 2026, in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park near Ironwood, Michigan. The park covers over 60,000 acres and includes ridgelines, rocky Lake Superior shoreline, waterfalls, and more than 90 miles of trail, including sections of the North Country National Scenic Trail.

The event features a 50 mile single loop course. The half marathon follows the final stretch of that loop. The course was designed to showcase the park’s terrain rather than promote fast times.

Runners should expect steep climbs, technical descents, muddy and root‑filled surfaces, and remote stretches with limited access. Night running and long periods of solitude are possible on parts of the route. Aid stations will be placed along the route and stocked with traditional ultra fare and hot options. Crews and pacers are restricted to designated access points due to the course’s remote nature.

Organizers are Ornery Mule Racing. Registration closes September 16. Ultrasignup offers optional refund protection at checkout; the stated rollover option without protection is an eight hour volunteer shift at the current year’s race, with no exceptions. Organizers request volunteers for aid stations and note that signup is available on the event website. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
