Pinkathon Challenge for Breast Cancer

The Pinkathon is held each October as both a global virtual challenge and an in-person event in San Francisco at the Ferry Building north of the Gott’s Roadside outdoor patio. The virtual option can be completed anywhere during October and allows participants to run, walk, or cycle any distance on one day or across many days.

Distance options include:

  • 5K
  • 10K
  • 10M
  • 13.1M
  • 26.2M
  • 50K
  • Pink Ribbon Trail

Only the 5K, 10K, and the Pink Ribbon Trail are marked with chalk. There are no trail markings for the 10-mile, half marathon, marathon, or 50K courses. The event provides downloadable and printed maps with course locations, drinking fountains, and bathrooms. The format follows an unsanctioned "fat ass" style for longer routes, meaning there are no aid stations, no official times, and no awards.

The event functions as a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Online registration and online donations are accepted; a registration fee is noted and voluntary donations to the charity are expected. Donations made through the event links are described as tax-deductible and directed to breast cancer research.

COVID safety guidance notes that face coverings are optional in the start/finish area and inside the Ferry Building, overcrowding should be avoided, and touchless check-in is used via a mobile app. Staggered starts are planned for different distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
