The course uses diverse single-track trails through dense East Texas pine forest with trees reaching about 100 feet. Runners encounter rolling hills, exposed and snaking tree roots, and dense pine needle ground cover. Organizers rate the course difficulty as 4, described as moderate to strenuous with technical sections and local humidity and elevation affecting conditions.

The start and finish are located at the Blackjack Group Pavilion. Courses are marked with in-ground flagging and directional signage, and maps are provided. Aid stations are located at multiple points including the start and finish area, Old Road Trail, the Group 3 picnic trailhead parking area, and the Rock Dam area. Aid stations provide basic first aid supplies, electrolytes, a variety of salty and sweet snacks, and Crazy Water. The event is cupless; refillable bottles are refilled at aid stations.

Finishers receive a custom medal and race shirts are available for those who register by the stated deadline. Awards are given to first place male and female finishers in each distance. The event is part of a regional eco series and offers volunteer and sponsorship opportunities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
