Paine Mountain Trail Races
The 4th Annual Paine Mountain Trail Races take place in Northfield, VT, with courses that start and finish at the Norwich Shaw Outdoor Center, 165 Paine Mountain Drive. The event includes community and competitive trail running and functions as a fundraiser for the Northfield Town Forest and the Norwich University cross country program. A portion of the proceeds is designated for trail management in the Northfield Town Forest and for continued development of the university cross country course.
Race options include the longer summit route and a shorter Anchor course, plus free youth events. Both adult courses begin on single-track switchback wooded trail for just over a mile to Cheney Field where the routes separate. The Summit course proceeds to the Paine Mountain Summit before looping back to reconnect with the Anchor course. The final mile and a half on both courses returns via single-track wooded trails to the Shaw Outdoor Center finish.
Registration fees vary by date and there is a student discount for Norwich students. The first 100 registered participants may choose between a Paine Mountain Trail Race coaster or a T-shirt. Paine Mountain rises to 2,408 feet and the Norwich Anchor is a large cement structure on the old ski slope that is visible from the campus.
