Paine Mountain Anchor Challenge Trail Race

Paine Mountain Trail Races

The Paine Mountain Trail Races are held in Northfield, Vermont, with the race base at the Norwich Shaw Outdoor Center (165 Paine Mountain Drive). This is the fourth edition of the event and it includes adult and youth trail races.

Distances offered:

  • 7.5 mile Summit Race to the Paine Mountain summit
  • Anchor Challenge 6k to the Norwich Anchor
  • Youth races 200 m kid dash and 1 mile fun run

Both adult courses start and finish at the base of Paine Mountain at the Shaw Outdoor Center. Runners follow a single-track switchback wooded trail for just over a mile to Cheney Field, where the Summit course splits from the Anchor course. The Summit route continues to the Paine Mountain Trail and the summit before circling back to reconnect with the Anchor course. The final mile and a half returns on single-track wooded trails to the finish at the Shaw Outdoor Center.

The event is a fundraiser for the Northfield Town Forest and the Norwich University Cross Country program. A portion of funds is designated for trail management for the Northfield Town Forest and for development of the Norwich home cross country course.

Registration fees vary by date: early online $35 through September 13, later online $40 through September 27, day of registration $50. Youth races are free and a Norwich student discount is available. The first 100 registered participants may choose a coaster or a T-shirt.
