Outlaw Trail Ultra Half Marathon : race overview
The Outlaw Trail Ultra Half Marathon is a point to point mostly downhill trail run that is about 1.4 miles longer than a standard half marathon. The route begins at Diamondfield Jack Campground and runs north to the Third Fork Campground in the Sawtooth National Forest Rock Creek Recreation Area near Twin Falls, Idaho.
The first three miles follow Deadline Ridge Road, a rough jeep and ATV track. The remaining ten plus miles are on single track trail. The course is marked with yellow and pink flagging. There is a single aid station on course, located at about 3.8 miles; the last section of the course does not have water services, so runners need adequate hydration capacity.
Field size is limited to 200 runners. Registration includes a race shirt for those who register by July 15, a unique finisher award, and a post race meal. The entry fee is listed at $85; Idaho sales tax and processing fees apply. The event policy states there are no rollovers or refunds.
Logistics notes include plenty of parking at start and finish, paved access to Diamondfield Jack Campground, an optional shuttle, and a bag drop service for small labeled bags that will be transported to the finish. Basic rules include staying on the marked route, no dogs, and no smoking in race areas. The event also serves as a supply and fund raiser for local trail and shelter organizations with collection boxes at start and finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
