Race The Tide

Race The Tide takes place on the Flete Estate in Mothecombe, South Devon. The event features three distinct distances that utilize a combination of private tracks, trails beside the Erme estuary, and sections of the South West Coast Path. A unique element of the event involves participants reaching specific points on the course to cross tidal areas before the water rises.

The event offers three race distances:

  • Woodland Trail: An 8.5-mile course on the private Flete Estate with two aid stations. Participants must be at least 16 years old.
  • Long Half-Marathon: A 15.5-mile route with three aid stations. Participants must be at least 17 years old.
  • Long Marathon: A 28.5-mile course with four aid stations. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

The Long Marathon route includes running along Bigbury beach and across the causeway to Burgh Island. For both the marathon and half-marathon distances, runners are required to maintain an average pace of at least 4mph to complete the course successfully.

All routes are fully marked and marshaled. The organizers operate a cupless policy, requiring participants to carry their own water capacity. Mandatory equipment for all runners includes trail shoes, a mobile phone, and a foil blanket, with additional requirements for the longer distances. Finishers receive a bespoke event medal, and parking at the venue is provided free of charge for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
