Race The Tide takes place on Saturday 16 May 2026 at the Flete Estate, Mothecombe, South Devon. The event is organised by OuterEdge Events and uses private estate land and nearby coastal paths. Routes run beside the Erme estuary, along the South West Coast Path, on bridle paths, through woodland and fields, and include a beach section at Bigbury-on-Sea and a crossing of the causeway to Burgh Island. The courses finish above the Mothecombe shoreline.

The event is the ninth running of Race The Tide. All three courses use private footpaths and coastal paths and include marshals and waymarking along the routes.

Distances offered:

  • 28.5 miles Long Marathon
  • 15.5 miles Long Half-Marathon
  • 8.5 miles Watery Woodland Trail

Minimum ages (conservative): Long Marathon 20 years, Long Half-Marathon 18 years, Woodland Trail 17 years. Reported aid stations: Marathon 4, Half-Marathon 3, Woodland Trail 2. The Half-Marathon total ascent is approximately 613 metres. All races are digitally timed and provide a bespoke finisher medal; event t-shirts are available to purchase.

All courses will be fully marked, marshaled, and have first aid on course and at headquarters. Free parking is usually available (usual charge £6 per day). Dogs are not permitted during the races. Compulsory kit for Half-Marathon and Marathon includes capacity to carry 1 litre of water, trail shoes, waterproof jacket, whistle, mobile phone with stored emergency contacts, emergency food, and a foil blanket. Woodland Trail runners must carry at least 250 ml water, trail shoes, a mobile phone with stored emergency contacts, and a foil blanket.
