Race The Tide

Race The Tide takes place at the privately owned Flete Estate in Mothecombe, South Devon on 16 May 2026. The event comprises three timed trail races that use private footpaths, bridle paths, fields, woodland and sections of the South West Coast Path beside the Erme estuary.

The courses include beach and causeway sections at Bigbury on Sea and Burgh Island and a crossing of the estuary at Wonwell beach. Routes are fully waymarked and marshaled, and digital timing is used. All finishers receive a bespoke event medal and event t-shirts are available for purchase before race day. Parking is provided, usually charged at about £6.00 per day. Races start and finish at Mothecombe.

Distances:

  • Long Marathon, almost 29 miles, coastal tracks including Bigbury beach and Burgh Island
  • Long Half Marathon, about 15 miles, woodland and estuary trails then coastal section
  • Watery Woodland Trail, 8.5 miles, primarily private woodland and estuarine trails

Aid stations are provided on course; there are multiple aid stations on each route. First aid is available at the event headquarters and on the course. Compulsory kit rules apply: Half Marathon and Marathon runners must carry at least 1 litre of water, trail shoes, a waterproof jacket, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a foil blanket.
