OTT Marathon & 10 Mile Race

The event comprises a mountain trail marathon and a 10 mile race based at Parkwood Dolygaer, Merthyr Tydfil, in the Brecon Beacons. The marathon is described as approximately 26.2 (ish) miles and is a looped route that visits Pen Y Fan via Graig Fan Ddu, continues up Fan Y Big, passes Talybont Reservoir, climbs Tor y Foel, then returns to Parkwood Dolygaer.

  • 10 miles follows marathon route to Checkpoint 1 then returns to Dolygaer

The marathon has three checkpoints: Checkpoint 1 at 7 miles, Checkpoint 2 at 14.5 miles, and Checkpoint 3 at 20.5 miles. There is a single cutoff for the marathon of six hours at 20.5 miles. The 10 mile race has one checkpoint at 7 miles where runners must check in before continuing to the finish.

Compulsory kit for the marathon includes a reusable cup, charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre hydration, foil blanket or bivvy bag, 400 kcal emergency rations, basic first aid kit, head torch or torch, compass, whistle, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, warm layer, hat and gloves, and a rucksack. Compulsory kit for the 10 mile race includes a reusable cup, first aid kit, bivvy or foil blanket, 500 ml of water, and a waterproof jacket.
