Tactical Hiking Event in Virginia

Operation THUNDER is a physical event scheduled for March 2026 in Glasgow, Virginia. The course takes place at the Balcony Falls Trailhead and covers a distance of 13.5 miles. Participants navigate a route with a total elevation gain of 2,375 ft.

The event focuses on movement under load, and participants can select from three different categories based on the weight they carry. These categories require specific "dry" loads (weight not including water or food):

  • Operation THUNDER LIGHT: Participants carry a 10 lbs load.
  • Operation THUNDER: Participants carry a 25 lbs load.
  • Operation THUNDER HEAVY: Participants carry a 50 lbs load.

The terrain and the specified weight requirements test the speed and physical endurance of those taking part. All three registration options are priced equally. The event is hosted by Green Beret Fitness and utilizes the natural elevation of the Appalachian region. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
