Oak Mountain Ultra Relay

Oak Mountain Ultra Relay is a timed endurance event at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. Athletes may compete as solo participants or on relay teams in either a 12 hour or 24 hour format. The objective is to complete as many full triathlons, duathlons, aquabike events, or single-discipline laps (run, swim, or bike) as possible within the chosen time window.

Participants receive an assigned pit area inside the Village for sleeping, eating, and storing gear for the duration of the event. Laps may be completed in any order and athletes are not required to change disciplines between consecutive legs. Teams may have one athlete on course at a time and must perform athlete exchanges inside the transition area.

Course details: The swim is a 0.25 mile loop in a shallow section of the park with water temperatures around 68 to 72 degrees and depths up to about 8 to 9 feet. The bike segment is 10.50 miles on smooth park roads with wide shoulders, an out and back route that includes some climbs and descents; vehicle traffic is reduced after park closing, and organizers recommend practicing night riding. The run follows a 2 mile route combining a short lakeshore trail, passage through the pit area, and paved roads along the water with modest elevation gain.
