Norris Ultra Dam Hard Trail Race
The Norris Ultra Dam Hard Trail Race takes place at Norris Dam State Park and the Norris Municipal Watershed. The event offers two distinct distances over natural terrain, utilizing a course composed of single-track trails and jeep roads.
The available race distances include:
- 25 km
- 50 km
The 25 km and 50 km courses are related, with the shorter distance consisting of a single loop and the longer race requiring two completions of the same loop. Both events start and finish at the pavilion located near the Tea Room at Norris Dam State Park. The event organizers enforce specific time limits for participant safety and volunteer logistics. The 25 km race has a time limit of 4 hours and 40 minutes, while the 50 km race has a 9-hour limit. Runners in the longer distance must reach the halfway point and depart the aid station within 4 hours to continue. A minimum pace of 18:00 per mile is required for all participants.
Multiple aid stations are positioned along the route and are accessible by road for spectators. These stations provide water and assistance, though runners are encouraged to carry their own hydration equipment to reduce waste. Participants who complete either distance receive a finisher's medal. Regulations for the course prohibit the use of headsets, earphones, bicycles, strollers, and pets. Runners under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Accommodations are available directly within Norris Dam State Park, including campgrounds with utility hook-ups and various cabin options. Additional lodging is located near the junction of I-75 and Andersonville Highway 61. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
