NorCal Backyard Ultra

The NorCal Backyard Ultra is a timed endurance event held October 23-24, 2026 at Beals Point, Granite Bay, California. The format uses a repeating loop of 4.16 miles with about 320 feet of elevation gain per lap. At the top of each hour runners must start the next lap and finish the previous one; failing to be at the start line at the top of the hour removes a runner from further competition. The Last Person Standing format continues until only one runner remains. The event also offers a Mini Last Person Standing format that ends after 12 hours.

Participants are encouraged to bring personal aid supplies such as tents, tables, chairs, and food and to set them up near the start and finish area between laps. There is one organized aid station at the start and finish under a tent providing water, hydration mix, light snacks, and warm food. There are no aid stations on the course and on-course assistance by crew is not allowed.

All finishers receive a NorCal Backyard Ultra quarter zip and a custom wood award scaled to miles completed. The top finisher receives a custom wood plaque. The event includes The Unity Initiative, which offers matched donations and future race discounts for contributions to selected nonprofit partners including Placer Food Bank, Sacramento Food Bank, CASA organizations in Sacramento and Placer County, AcademySTAY, Sierra Club of California, Placer Land Trust, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
