Course and logistics
The 35-mile course runs from the Jesusita Trailhead to the Romero Canyon Trailhead and back, covering much of the Santa Barbara front country trail system. The route includes steep, rocky, technical trails with more than ten thousand vertical feet of combined gain and descent. Key segments described in the route include climbs to Inspiration Point, the Tunnel Trail and Rattlesnake Trail, Gibraltar Road, West Cold Spring Trail, Cold Spring climbs, San Ysidro Creek crossings, the Edison Catwalk section, Buena Vista Trail, and Romero Canyon before the return.
The course will be minimally marked with colored ribbon. Participants are required to use GPX digital mapping; a GPX file will be provided prior to the event. Aid stations are located at approximately miles 9, 17, 26, 31 and the finish, with long unsupported sections between them. There is no parking at the start/finish area; participants must arrange drop-off and pick-up. The course may be modified if directed by the US Forest Service due to fire or flood damage.
