Nikki Cozzi-Carso Scholarship Annual 5K Presented by Chicago Canicross Club

The event is an annual scholarship 5K held on November 14, 2026 at Deer Grove-East Picnic Grove #4 in Palatine, IL, presented by the Chicago Canicross Club. The course is described as a scenic 5K trail with a paved option available and is open to runners, walkers, and canicross participants who run with dogs.

All proceeds support the scholarship fund, which provides financial aid to local Catholic school students and supports faith based education rooted in academic excellence, compassion, and service. Awards are offered for top finishers, including separate recognition for two- and four-legged participants. Post-race refreshments and community activities are planned, and a T-shirt is available to participants who register by October 1.

Canicross participants must use appropriate gear: a padded waist canicross belt for hands-free running, a 1.5 to 2 meter elastic bungee line to absorb shock, and a properly fitted sport specific or pulling dog harness. Standard leashes and collars are not permitted in the canicross field; race organizers may move participants to the fun walk or run if suitable canicross gear is not in use. A dog-friendly heat is available that does not require canicross equipment, provided the dog’s gear does not cause choking or neck strain.
