The New Year Burro Bash takes place January 3, 2026 at Boyd Ranch, 34475 Scenic Loop Road, Wickenburg, AZ 85390. The event includes the following race distances:
- 5k Fun Run with a burro
- 10k with a burro
- 5k Fun Run - Solo Runner
- 10k - Solo Runner
Participants receive a race bib and a swag bag. Participants registered before December 10, 2025 are eligible to receive a race shirt. A costume contest and additional activities are scheduled during the event weekend, and an obstacle course is planned for January 4, 2026.
Logistics and rules
Camping is available at Boyd Ranch for Friday January 2 through Sunday January 4, 2026. Primitive camping with water and bathrooms is included with entry fees. Pens are available for an additional fee ($30 per event, self-clean). Dogs are allowed on leash; fires are allowed only in elevated pits. Meals are planned for Friday night and for Saturday; attendees are asked to bring their own drink container and snacks.
Entry fees are $50 until December 2, 2025, then $65 thereafter. All entries are non-refundable. Allowed competitors are solo runners and burro teams (one runner and one burro). No ponies, mules, zonkeys, or zebras are permitted. Required equipment includes a properly fitting halter and a lead rope not exceeding 15 feet. Ungelded male donkeys and donkeys under three years require race director approval. All participants must sign a waiver and assume their own risk.
