Route and logistics

Participants meet at Kirkby Stephen and travel by minibus to Buckden to start the recce. The route climbs out of Wharfedale toward Nappa Hall and on to Askrigg, then turns west along Wensleydale through Hardraw and Cotterdale. It follows Lady Anne’s High Road past the Andy Goldsworthy sculptures at the head of the Eden Valley, then descends toward Pendragon Castle. Some people may do parts of the route in the dark. Minibus support is provided throughout, with drinks and nibbles if the Askrigg coffee shop is not open. There is plentiful parking in Kirkby Stephen, which is accessible from the M6 via Tebay junction 38, and there is a railway station at Kirkby Stephen (Garsdale station pick-up is also a possibility). Weather and road conditions may affect access. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
