NAV4 LAW75 Recce: Buckden to Mallerstang is a one-day recce of the middle section of the LAW75 route on 3 January 2026. The recce covers approximately c.20+ miles along the route between Buckden and Mallerstang. The event is open to everyone and is limited to 12 participants. An entry fee of £30 applies.

Route and logistics

The route climbs out of Wharfedale toward Nappa Hall, continues to Askrigg, then turns west through Wensleydale to Hardraw, Cotterdale and the head of the Eden Valley, including the Lady Anne's High Road and the run down to Pendragon Castle. The recce includes sections that are not well served by public transport.

Minibus transport is provided from Kirkby Stephen to Buckden and for return options. Minibus support is available during the day, with drinks and nibbles supplied when local facilities are closed. Kirkby Stephen offers plentiful parking and has a nearby railway station; Garsdale Head is mentioned as a possible pick-up location. Weather and road conditions may affect access to the route.

Trails around Constable Burton Hall feature a 5km lap and a varied 10km option across pasture, tracks and woodland with a stream crossing. Entry is limited to 200 and age restrictions apply.
