NAV4 LAW75 Recce: Buckden to Mallerstang is a one-day recce of the middle section of the LAW75 route on 3 January 2026. The recce covers approximately c.20+ miles along the route between Buckden and Mallerstang. The event is open to everyone and is limited to 12 participants. An entry fee of £30 applies.

Route and logistics

The route climbs out of Wharfedale toward Nappa Hall, continues to Askrigg, then turns west through Wensleydale to Hardraw, Cotterdale and the head of the Eden Valley, including the Lady Anne's High Road and the run down to Pendragon Castle. The recce includes sections that are not well served by public transport.

Minibus transport is provided from Kirkby Stephen to Buckden and for return options. Minibus support is available during the day, with drinks and nibbles supplied when local facilities are closed. Kirkby Stephen offers plentiful parking and has a nearby railway station; Garsdale Head is mentioned as a possible pick-up location. Weather and road conditions may affect access to the route.

Trail runs nearby

Embrace winter trails in scenic Hamsterley Forest with half marathon and 10k options, a mix of gravel tracks, twisting singletrack and occasional mud. Eco friendly race goodies, safety support and stunning woodland views make this a must.

Run a canicross 10k or Half Marathon through Hamsterley Forest on 10 Jan, on waymarked trails and a friendly forest HQ. Only 70 places; entrants get a bespoke mug, hot soup and free photos while safety rules protect dogs and runners.

Take on winter fell at Giggleswick School on 11 January 2026 with a testing 6.2 km course and 135 m of climb to challenge your trail legs. Advance entry via Helm Hill is required and juniors are welcome to join shorter races.

Join the L100 recce from Ambleside to Coniston, a 16 mile evening run replicating the Montane Lakeland 50 and 100 course. Night run requires full kit and fitness to meet checkpoint cut offs; open only to confirmed 2026 race entrants.
