Mullaghcarn Giant Race
The Mullaghcarn Giant Race is a NIMRA League medium-distance fell race organised by Carmen Runners at Gortin Glens Forest Park, Omagh. The course covers 12 km with approximately 500 m of total ascent and includes a summit at Mullaghcarn (542 m).
The route starts from the Gortin Glens car park and includes sections across boggy ground, so trail shoes are advised. The course will be clearly marked and marshals will be positioned along the route. Race numbers are restricted to 200 entrants, entries are online only, and the minimum entry age is 17.
Timing is by SPORTident SI Cards (dibbers) and control boxes; competitors are required to use the cards at checkpoints and return them to race control at the finish area whether or not they complete the course.
An essential kit list applies for participation and may be finalised on the day depending on conditions. Required items include a hat or buff, gloves, waterproof jacket with hood (taped seams), waterproof bottoms (taped seams), foil blanket, fully charged mobile phone, whistle, emergency food, and a means to carry the kit. Walking poles, headphones, and earbuds are not permitted under NIMRA guidelines.
Runners who retire should report to the nearest marshal if possible and then report to the organisers at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
