MTC Gelert Ultra overview

The MTC Gelert is a 47 mile single day ultra running event from Barmouth to Llanidloes. The route follows National Cycle Route 8 for almost its entire length, with a short final extension into Llanidloes. The start is listed at the Sandbanks Hotel in Barmouth and the finish at the Red Lion Hotel in Llanidloes.

The race is Day 3 of the six day MTC CYMRUN end to end challenge and forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 for the standalone event, with an additional allowance of 20 places for CYMRUN entrants, giving a maximum field of 40.

Organisers set preset cut off points based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. The event is cup free and entrants must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first aid pack.

Entrants receive a Gelert finishers medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants by email about four weeks before the event. Tracking devices with SOS functions are provided so competitor progress can be monitored in real time. Entry fees are non refundable though a personal cancellation insurance option and a defer option are offered at booking. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
