MTC Gelert

The MTC Gelert is a single day ultra running event covering 47 miles. The route begins at the Sandbanks Hotel in Barmouth and follows National Cycle Route 8 for the majority of the course, with a short extension into Llanidloes to finish at the Red Lion Hotel. The race is Day 3 of the six day MTC CYMRUN series and is scheduled to take place in 2026 as a quadrennial event that will next return in 2030.

Competitor entries are limited to 20 places with an additional allowance of 20 places for CYMRUN entrants, giving a maximum of 40 competitors. The event enforces a minimum average pace of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Cut-off times and preset stage closures are applied along the route. The race is cup free so competitors should provide their own reusable cup.

Finishers receive a bespoke Gelert medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed to competitors approximately four weeks before the event. Organisers supply a tracking device with an SOS function for safety and real-time monitoring. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid kit and emergency food items. Entrants must be at least 20 years old. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
