MTC Enbarr Ultra Marathon

The MTC Enbarr is a 36-mile ultra marathon taking place in Ireland. This point-to-point race starts at the Hylands Burren Hotel in Ballyvaughan, County Clare, and finishes at the Nox Hotel in Galway. The event is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series and serves as the seventh day of the fourteen-day MizMal End to End challenge of Ireland.

The course primarily follows the MizMal route, covering a total distance of approximately 35.7 miles. The event is limited to a maximum of 40 participants, which includes 20 individual race entries and 20 participants completing the full multi-day challenge. The terrain features approximately 1,198 feet of climbing and 1,214 feet of descent.

There are three check-points located along the route:

  • 9.1 miles (N67, Co. Galway)
  • 17 miles (Municipal District of Loughrea)
  • 25.4 miles (Garraun Upper, Co. Galway)

This is a cup-free event, meaning participants must carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Mandatory equipment includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, first aid kit, and an emergency food pack. The organizers provide a tracking device to each runner for monitoring progress and safety. A minimum average pace of 4 mph is required to remain in the event.
