Knock Ma

Knock Ma is a mountain running event organised by the Irish Mountain Running Association in County Galway on Wednesday 12 August 2026. The start and finish are at the car park of Knockma hill; parking is public and often busy. Carpooling and cycling are suggested as travel options.

The course is fully marked and GPS use is not allowed. The event is part of the Galway League and is rated 5 (1,2,2) - easy terrain, typical ascent 200 m - 500 m, and typical length 6 km - 10 km.

  • 9.60 km main course, 359 m climb
  • 4.00 km short course, junior option

Entry opens 10 August 2026 and closes 12 August 2026. Entry cost is €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. The entry limit is 250 competitors.

A mandatory Level B kit list applies. Required items include a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. The exact kit to be carried on the day will be finalised depending on conditions and communicated at registration. Runners must have the means to carry the kit. Failure to carry required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification and random kit checks may be carried out.
