Historic Trail Racing in Sierra Madre

The Mount Wilson Trail Race is an annual event held in Sierra Madre, California. Established in 1908, it is recognized as one of the oldest trail races in the state. The course utilizes a historic path originally used by the Gabrielino Indians and later developed by Benjamin Wilson in 1864.

The event features three distinct categories:

  • Trail Race - Adult: A course for participants aged 18 and older.
  • Trail Race - Youth: A course for participants aged 14 to 17.
  • Kids Fun Run: A non-competitive event for children aged 3 to 13.

The main trail race follows an 8.6 mile out-and-back course. The route begins at Kersting Court, climbs the Mount Wilson Trail to Orchard Camp, and returns to the starting point. Participants encounter a winding course with a total elevation gain of over 2,160 feet.

The event supports the Fletcher Trail Maintenance Fund. This fund provides equipment, tools, and materials for the volunteer crew responsible for the upkeep of the local trail system. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
