Mountain Mist 50K : Huntsville, AL
Mountain Mist is a 50 kilometer trail race at Monte Sano State Park and on Huntsville Land Trust trails. The event is the 32nd running and follows rocky, single-track trails with mud and creek crossings. The course includes about 4,300 ft of climbing, a steep section on the Waterline Trail that requires use of the upper body, and the final six miles through McKay Hollow with very rugged terrain. The course will be similar to prior years and a GPX file is available on Garmin Connect.
Registration is online only, opens Wed. Oct 1, 2025 at 12:00 AM CT, and is limited to 525 runners. The race closes for 2026 entries on Jan 17. There are no refunds, no race-day registration, no entry transfers and no deferrals. Race management may deny entry to runners who do not demonstrate appropriate endurance experience. An overall time limit of about 9.5 hours is enforced and checkpoint cutoffs will be strictly applied.
Aid, packet pickup and conditions
Packet pickup is Friday, Jan 23 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Monte Sano Lodge and a late pickup window is available on Saturday morning at the Lodge. Weather and trail conditions can vary widely and the race may be cancelled for snow, ice or impassable roads; the decision is made by the Huntsville Track Club board.
