Mountain Man Ultra - 50K in Waterville, PA
The Mountain Man Ultra is a 50K trail race held in Waterville, Pennsylvania, using trails around Little Pine State Park and Pine Creek Valley. The course follows the former Call of the Wilds 50K route and runs largely on the Mid State Trail and Pine Creek Trail.
The route begins with a short road climb before entering technical singletrack that is rocky, off-camber, and constantly changing. The first half offers few long flat sections until a brief reset along Pine Creek Trail in Ramsey. The back half includes long climbs over Spiked Buck, Tiadaghton, and Pesto, with a steep climb at Torbert near mile 26 and a final descent down Panther Run to the finish. The course accumulates roughly 7,500 feet of elevation gain over 50 kilometers.
The event notes a median finish time around 7:45, with most finishers between 6 and 10 hours. An 11 hour cutoff applies. The course is described as requiring comfort on steep, technical terrain and long climbs; runners new to trail racing may find it overwhelming.
Aid station and swag details are listed as coming soon. Registration closes on September 12 for the September 26 event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
