Mount Helena Run

Event details

The 49th Mount Helena Run is set for Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Helena, Montana. The event is a 9 km (5.6 mile) trail race with about 1,300 feet of elevation gain and loss. The course includes roughly 1.5 miles on roads and more than 4 miles on single-track trails. The start area is on the Walking Mall at Last Chance Gulch and Broadway, near Birds & Beaseleys. Packet pickup is held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am immediately before the race. The event notes that no dogs and no strollers are allowed. The organizer offers a reduced registration fee for entries completed before September 1.

Course

The route moves quickly from urban streets into Mt. Helena City Park single-track trails. Runners ascend approximately 1,300 feet to the top of Mount Helena and then return to the finish on Last Chance Gulch. The course follows named trails such as the 1906 trail, Prairie trail, West End trail, Backside trail, and Hogback trail on its way to and from the ridge.
