Mad Trapper Backyard Ultra

Mad Trapper Backyard Ultra is a trail race held at The Ark in Denholm, QC. The event offers multiple formats: an Individual Classic full loop, a shorter "Kristi Loop," a two person team event, and a snowshoe Backyard Ultra in winter.

Distances differ by course and season. Main options include:

  • Summer full loop about 5.5 to 6.0 km
  • Summer Kristi Loop about 5 km
  • Winter full loop 5.5 km
  • Winter Kristi Loop less than 5 km

Runners must return to the corral every hour; if a runner is not in the corral when the audio recording signals the start, they are out. The individual winner is the last person to complete a full loop solo. The two person event has Friends and Couples categories; teams continue until both members are out and a time limit applies. Teams may use their own rotation strategy.

Onsite there is fresh water, an electrolyte drink and some snacks. Post race food and drinks are provided. Free onsite camping is available with a firepit, picnic table and basic buildings; a cabin may be rentable if available. Crew members are allowed in the transition area but no support is permitted on course. Pre running the course is not allowed due to insurance and because the course is fully marked only shortly before race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
