Mad Trapper Camp Fortune Classic
Mad Trapper Camp Fortune Classic
The Mad Trapper Camp Fortune Classic is a trail running event held at Camp Fortune in Chelsea, Quebec, located 20 minutes from downtown Ottawa. The races take place on technical singletrack mountain bike trails within the Gatineau Hills, featuring natural terrain with roots, rocks, and rolling elevation. Unlike many mountain events, these courses focus on forested trails rather than ski hill climbs.
Runners can select from three distinct distances:
- 3 km: A "Try-a-Trail" course designed for beginners, featuring gentle elevation and a mix of singletrack and wider paths.
- 5 km: A single loop known as the "Mad" course, consisting of flowing mountain bike singletrack.
- 10 km: The "Crazed" course, which involves two laps of the 5 km loop with a pass through the start area between laps.
The event operates with a grassroots atmosphere and has no cutoff times for participants. While there are no aid stations located directly on the forest trails, a central station at the Camp Fortune Lodge provides water, electrolytes, and snacks.
The courses are well-marked and maintained. Following the race, participants can attend a post-race BBQ at the lodge. Prizes are distributed through random draws rather than strictly by finishing rank. The event is open to various experience levels, from children and beginners to seasoned trail runners.
