Mad Meadows 50

Leavenworth, United States • 10 Oct 2026

Overview

Mad Meadows is a trail run event near Leavenworth, Washington, taking place in October. The course follows alpine ridgelines and passes through golden larch trees. Two distances are offered: 50k and 50 miles.

The Course

The event is described as a remote course with steep climbs and technical trail sections, as well as sections of smooth single track. The 50k route reaches elevations over 6,000 feet, while the 50-mile route reaches over 7,000 feet. The high-elevation course offers views of the Entiat River Valley and the glaciated slopes of Clark Mountain and Dakobed (Glacier Peak). Both distances start on Chiwawa River Road at the Grouse Creek Group Campground.

The 50-mile route begins with a flat section before a long climb from the river valley. Runners pass through areas with pumice slopes speckled with larch trees and experience a technical descent from Garland Ridge. The 50k route climbs Minnow Ridge before rejoining the 50-mile course. Both distances later run through an old burn area, meadows, and along the Mad River trail before a final descent to the finish.

Logistics

The event is cupless; runners must carry their own refillable container. Post-race, hearty hot food and drinks are provided at the finish.

Aid stations offer typical ultra fare like PB&J, gummies, gels, electrolyte drinks, and water. Some stations also provide hot food. The Mad Meadows aid station is hike-in only and offers simpler items.

Crew access is allowed only at designated aid stations: Rock Creek, Basalt, Chikamin, and Entiat. Pacers are not allowed.

Required gear differs by distance:
