Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell Race
The Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell Race is held in association with the Longshaw Sheepdog Trials, which are described as Britain’s oldest sheepdog trials. The fell race has been run alongside the trials for the last 20 years and entrant admission includes access to the sheepdog trials, with a beer tent, hot food, grandstand seating for the dog trials and occasional spitfire flyovers.
The course distance is 7.1 km (4.4 miles) with 237 m (777 ft) of climb. A revised route will be used in 2026 that stays on the Longshaw estate. A 2025 route change was introduced to reduce clashes with other races and to tour notable parts of the Longshaw Estate and Grindleford Valley; that route featured fewer road crossings, a slightly shorter distance and less climb overall, but includes tricky descents and steep ascents.
OS Maps and a GPX download are made available for the route. The event is permitted and run under the rules of the Fell Runners Association. The National Trust helped to arrange access with conservation of the estate in mind. Entries for the event open on 1st May. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
