Overview
The Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell Race is held in association with Britain's oldest sheepdog trials. The fell race has been run alongside the trials for the last 20 years. Entry to the race includes free entry to the sheepdog trials event.
The Race
The 2026 event will use a 'New' route that stays on the Longshaw Estate. The course is a distance of 7.1 km (4.4 miles) with 237 m (777 ft) of climb. The route tours parts of the Longshaw Estate and Grindleford Valley, with fewer road crossings than previous versions. It is described as very slightly shorter with less climb overall but features some tricky descents and tough ascents.
Race entries will open on 1st May. The event is permitted and run under the rules of the Fell Runners Association. Access is arranged with the National Trust, with conservation of the estate in mind.
The Associated Event
The sheepdog trials event features a beer tent and hot food. A Spitfire flyover sometimes occurs. There is grandstand seating for the dog trials. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
