Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell Race
The Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell Race is held alongside the Longshaw Sheepdog Trials, an event described as Britain’s oldest sheepdog trials. The fell race has run in association with the trials for the last 20 years. Entry to the race includes access to the sheepdog trials area and its facilities such as a beer tent, hot food and grandstand seating; there is sometimes a spitfire flyover.
The 2026 race uses the 'New' route, staying on the Longshaw estate and in the Grindleford Valley. The course distance is 7.1 km with 237 m of climb. The route tours the estate, has fewer road crossings than earlier versions, is very slightly shorter with less overall climb, and includes some tricky descents and steep ascents.
The race is permitted by and run under the rules of the Fell Runners Association. FRA minimum kit is required and all runners must follow the FRA rules for racing.
Most of the route is on publicly accessible paths and there are a number of places to watch the race without entering the sheepdog trials event. OS map and GPX files are available for the route.
