Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell Race
The Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell Race is scheduled for 5 September 2026 on the Longshaw estate and surrounding Grindleford Valley. The race distance is 7.1 km (4.4 miles) with 237 m (777 ft) of climb. The 2026 event will use the "New" route that stays on the Longshaw estate.
The route tours parts of the estate and Grindleford Valley with fewer road crossings than earlier routes. Course notes mention some tricky descents and steep ascents. OS maps and a GPX track are available for the route.
Entry to the fell race includes free admission to the Longshaw Sheepdog Trials. Facilities associated with the trials include a beer tent, hot food, grandstand seating to watch the dog trials, and occasional spitfire flyovers. The race has been held in association with the sheepdog trials for around 20 years, and the Longshaw Sheepdog Trials are described as Britain’s oldest sheepdog trials.
The race is permitted and run under the rules of the Fell Runners Association. The National Trust assisted with arranging access to the estate with conservation in mind. Entries for the event open on 1 May. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
