Rodent Wriggle 2026

Norfolk & Suffolk LDWA are holding the third Rodent Wriggle on 11 July 2026, based at Needham Market Community Centre, School Street, Needham Market, IP6 8BB. The route follows the upper reaches of the River Rat through Mid Suffolk countryside and passes a number of villages and historic churches.

The event offers three waymarked routes:

  • 13.5 miles, branches at 7 miles and rejoins the main route to finish
  • 23 miles, branches at 12.5 miles and rejoins the main route to finish
  • 31.5 miles (50k), main route including 10 historic churches

Checkpoint and catering arrangements are provided: the 13.5 mile route has 2 checkpoints, the 23 mile route has 3, and the 31.5 mile route has 4. Checkpoint opening and closing times must be observed; arriving late at checkpoint 2 on the long route may result in being directed onto the shorter course. Refreshments and snacks are available at checkpoints and a light meal is provided at the finish. Drinks, toast and biscuits are included with entry; vegetarian and some gluten-free and vegan options will be available.

Practical notes: the event is run as scan & go. Competitors must download the route description (in a waterproof cover) and bring a mug. Recommended maps are OS Explorer 211 or Landranger 155. Dogs are allowed on leads but not inside halls except assistance dogs; handlers must have appropriate liability insurance. Retirements should be made at a checkpoint and notified to a marshal; return transport is provided only from checkpoints. Entries are limited to 165, fees are £16 for LDWA members and £26 for non-members, entries are not transferable and there are no on-the-day entries. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
