Essex Walker

The Essex Walker is a long-distance walking event based at Blackmore Village Hall in Essex. The main route is a 26 miles figure of 8 that follows footpaths and bridleways through the Essex countryside via Fryerning, Wyatts Green and Mountnessing. The shorter route of 18 miles follows the first loop of the long course plus an additional three miles.

The event is part of the Essex and Herts Triple Challenge together with the Blackwater Marathon and the Herts Hobble. There are three checkpoints on the 26 miles route and one checkpoint at nine miles on the 18 miles route. Food and drink provision includes hot and cold drinks at the start, snacks and sandwiches at checkpoints, and a meal at the finish. All finishers receive a certificate.

Entries open on 1 July 2026 and close on 18 October 2026 or earlier if the entry limit is reached. Entry is limited to 200 participants. Entry fees listed are £15 for LDWA members and £22 for non members. Entries are not transferable, there are no entries on the day, and refunds are not available after 17 October 2026 unless the event is cancelled.

Participants must be at least 16 years old; under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Dogs are not permitted. All entrants are asked to bring a mug. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Trail runs nearby

A self-navigated trail of about half marathon distance through the Essex countryside, starting and finishing at The Compasses in Littley Green, with staggered pre-booked starts and proceeds to Braintree Youth Project Charity.

A chip timed 10 km race around Highfield Park and the Alban Way in St Albans on 19 July 2026. The event village features a free family fun run, kids zone, live music and a charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK.

A six hour trail running challenge on a just over 5K 3.3 mile loop mostly off road through fields and vineyards with views of the River Crouch. Chip timed and fully marked, with one checkpoint per loop and a finisher medal.

Pretty Muddy 5k at Hylands Park on 19 July 2026 is a grass obstacle course with climbs, crawls and slides. Waves run every 15 minutes; the event has a £50 minimum fundraising target and listed entry prices for adults and children.
