Last of the Felascans
Last of the Felascans is a backyard ultra held in Alachua, FL, at San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park. The race uses a repeating loop of 4.167 mile run every hour; the loop distance is 100 divided by 24, so a full day of competition equals 100 miles. The course is entirely unpaved: trails by day and a dirt road after dark.
Runners are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop within the hour. There is no predefined finish; the winner is the runner who completes a loop that no other competitor completes. If no competitor outlasts every other competitor, there is no winner.
Support and facilities are limited. There are no aid stations on course and no aid permitted outside the start/finish area. Bathrooms and water are available at the start/finish area, and there may be ice. Each runner may use a maximum 10' x 10' area at the start/finish for a personal base camp. Competitors receive a shirt; the last person standing receives a special trophy.
Race rules require runners to be in the starting corral and to start when the bell rings, and they may receive no assistance after the bell until they complete the loop. Crews are expected to remain in camp and not accompany runners on course. Registration closes Wed, Nov 18 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
