Last of the Felascans
Last of the Felascans is a backyard ultra held at San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park in Alachau, FL, with a venue address listed as 12730 NW 109th Ln. The event is organized by Mule Racing and uses a repeating loop format where each loop measures 4.167 miles and must be completed within one hour.
Participants run the same loop each hour; runners who fail to finish a loop within the hour are eliminated. The loop follows trails during daylight and a dirt road after dark, and there is no pavement on either course. The loop distance is set so that a competitor who completes 24 loops covers 100 miles. There is no predefined finish; the winner is the runner who completes a loop that no other competitor completes. If no single competitor outlasts all others, there is no winner.
Each runner may set up a base camp no larger than 10'x10' at the start and finish area. There are no aid stations on course and no aid allowed outside the start and finish area. Bathrooms and water will be available at the start and finish, with ice possibly provided. A whistle sounds at 3, 2, and 1 minute before each loop start. Race rules require runners to be in the starting corral and to start when the bell rings, and to accept no assistance after the bell until the loop is completed. No refunds are offered; fees from dropouts will be donated to the Friends of San Felasco. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
