Event Overview

The Lake District Running Festival takes place over a weekend in Grasmere. It combines two main activities: the Grasmere Gallop trail races and the OMM Lite Trail Quest.

Event Components

Grasmere Gallop Trail Races These races occur on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with a start time of 11:30 AM. The available distances are:

  • 5.7 km
  • 10 km
  • 17 km There is also a 10 km Nordic Walk option on Saturday. A Trail Marathon is offered on Sunday, May 31, with a start time of 07:30 AM. All Saturday finishers receive a wooden medal, and marathon finishers receive a slate medal.

OMM Lite Trail Quest This is a navigational challenge where participants use a map and compass (GPS not permitted) to find checkpoints around the Grasmere area within a set time limit. Points are awarded, and the individual or team with the most points wins. Options include:

  • Competing on both Saturday and Sunday, or just one day.
  • Choosing between a Long Course (7 hours Saturday, 5 hours Sunday) or a Short Course (5 hours Saturday, 4 hours Sunday).
  • Entering solo or as a team of two or three.

Additional Activities

Separate children's events are held: a Teddy Dash for children under 5 and a Kids Fun Run (approximately 2 km) for children under 12. These require on-the-day registration. The event supports the Grasmere Red Squirrel Conservation Group. Parking, camping, and shower facilities are available for purchase.
