Lake District Running Festival

The Lake District Running Festival takes place at Grasmere Showground on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May 2026. It brings together the Grasmere Gallop trail races and the OMM Lite Trail Quest, featuring off-road running, fell running and orienteering events in the Grasmere area.

The OMM Lite Trail Quest uses checkpoints spread around Grasmere. Competitors receive a map showing checkpoint locations and points. Navigation is by map and compass only; GPS is not permitted. The event offers solo and team entries for two or three people, and two course lengths with set time limits. Penalty points apply for exceeding the allowed time. Competitors can enter for one day or both days; there are no prizes for single day entries.

Day parking, camping and shower purchases are available for the event, and these options sold out the previous year. All entry fees are per person. Saturday finishers receive a bespoke wooden medal, marathon finishers receive a bespoke slate medal, and competitors who complete events on both days receive a Doublers slate medal. Classic Lake District fell run from Braithwaite Lodge to Stile End, 8 km with 500 m of climb through scenic but testing winter terrain as the fourth race in the Kong Winter Series. Pre entry only and limited to 300 places; minimum age 16 an..

A 23 mile winter walk and run around the Lyth Valley from Abbot Hall Social Centre in Kendal, passing Cunswick Fell, Whitbarrow Scar and Scout Scar. The event has mandatory winter kit rules and currently operates a waiting list.

Tackle a scenic but stiff 4.7 km fell race at Elterwater Common in the Lake District as part of the Helm Hill Winter League, featuring a 396 m climb and great views. Entry on the day, juniors welcome, bring winter kit.

Run classic Lake District fell country at the Blake Fell Race on 31 January 2026, a testing 9.5 km course with 429 m of climb around The Leaps. Entries are limited to 120 so book early for this spirited winter challenge.
