Lake Chabot Trail Run

The Lake Chabot Trail Run takes place at the Lake Chabot Regional Park - Marina in Castro Valley, California. The courses begin at the Marina and travel around the Lake Chabot reservoir and the surrounding hills. Participants can choose from several distances:

  • 8K
  • Half Marathon
  • 30K
  • Marathon
  • 50K
  • Kid's Run (50-yard dash for ages 6 and younger)

The terrain varies by distance, consisting of a mix of single-track trails, dirt roads, and asphalt sections. The 8K course is primarily asphalt (72%), while the longer distances like the Half Marathon and Marathon rely more heavily on dirt roads (60%). Aid stations are positioned every 4 to 5 miles, offering water, electrolytes, fruit, and snacks. This event follows a cupless policy, meaning runners are expected to carry their own hydration containers.

The routes are marked with color-coded ribbons every 200 yards, with polka-dot flagging used to indicate turns at intersections. A total time limit of 8.5 hours applies to all events. Runners in the 30K, Marathon, and 50K distances have access to a drop bag area at the start and finish line. All finishers receive a custom medal, and 50K finishers receive an additional custom coaster. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
