Kuranda to Port Douglas Race (K2PD)

K2PD is a point to point trail race held in August between Kuranda and Port Douglas. The event is run within Mowbray National Park inside the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and features a mixture of native rainforest, open eucalypt forest, pine plantations and creek crossings. Black Mountain, a pyramid shaped landmark, is a prominent feature along the route and the tropical rainforest habitat includes the endangered southern cassowary.

The course normally starts just off the Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road and the Bump track to Port Douglas. Organisers plan to revert to the original 64 km course incorporating the Twin Bridges Track where possible; if not, a 60 km course will be used. The race is listed as a non certified solo trail event and also offers a team relay option.

Practical information provided for competitors includes a course map and a downloadable GPX file, a competitor information pack, race rules and support crew information. The start lies on Black Mountain Road about 200 m from the Kennedy Highway turnoff. The drive time from Cairns Esplanade/CBD to the start is approximately 30 minutes and there is street parking at the start; transport is also arranged to the start line and back to cars parked at Smithfield Shopping Centre.
