Kilworth Backyard Ultra - Kilworth Woods, County Cork

Kilworth Backyard Ultra is a lap based ultra held on a loop of approximately 6.7 km with about 125 m of elevation gain per lap. The starting corral is at the top of the main car park in Kilworth Woods. Most of the course runs on wide paths with a few short sections on narrower forest trails. The route is fully marked and marshals will direct runners for the first couple of laps. There are no aid stations on the course; water and light refreshments are provided near the start and finish corral. Parking at the venue is limited.

The event follows the backyard ultra format: runners complete the loop within a fixed hour and are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop in that period or fail to start the next loop. The race continues into the night and the following day until only one runner completes one more loop than all other competitors. Participants may not leave the course during a lap except for toilet breaks. No outside aid is allowed on the course; crew support is permitted only at the base camp. Trekking poles are not permitted. GPS devices are allowed. Participants must carry mandatory Level C kit which includes a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map and compass. Random kit checks may be carried out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
