Keweenaw Ultramarathon
The Keweenaw Ultramarathon takes place on November 7, 2026, at the Michigan Technological University Tech Trails in Houghton, MI. The event offers two trail distances on the same looped course.
- 50K
- 25k
The 25k covers one loop of the course and the 50k covers two loops. A headlamp is required for the start of the 50k and for the first 1.5 hours of that race. The route is marked with neon flags placed on the right side; seeing flags on the left indicates a wrong turn. Closed trails at intersections are marked with caution tape.
There are aid stations at the main trailhead and at Nara, with additional aid station encounters at miles 4.2 (6.8 km), 11.8 (19 km), 15.6 (25.1 km), 19.8 (31.9 km), and 27.4 (44.1 km). Aid stations provide water, drink mix, and standard ultra foods. All athletes must check in at every aid station by stating their bib number.
All bibs are picked up on the morning of the race. Drop bags may be left in the community room, under the tent, or in cars and can be accessed during the race after checking in at the trailhead aid station. Pacers are not allowed. Runners will cross Pilgrim Road several times; a volunteer will assist with crossings but will not stop road traffic.
Timing is handled through UltraSignup and there is no live tracking. Awards are given to the top athlete for each distance and additional prizes will be distributed to participants. Time limits are enforced for safety: the 50k has an 8 hour cut off and the 25k has a 7 hour cut off. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
