Keweenaw Ultramarathon
The Keweenaw Ultramarathon is a trail race held at the Michigan Technological University Tech Trails in Houghton, MI. The event offers two distances run on the same looped course. The route is marked with neon flags on the right-hand side; flags on the left indicate a wrong turn. Closed trails at intersections are marked with caution tape.
Distances
- 50K : two loops of the 25k course on the Tech Trails
- 25K : one loop of the course on the Tech Trails
The course passes aid stations at approximately miles 4.2, 11.8, 15.6, 19.8, and 27.4. Aid stations provide water, drink mix, and standard ultra foods; participants may also use personal hydration and snacks. All athletes must check in at every aid station encounter by reporting their bib number to a volunteer. Participants may access drop bags or personal gear at the community room, under a tent, or from their cars after checking in at the trailhead aid station.
The 50K begins in darkness so a headlamp is required for the early portion of that race. Pacers are not allowed. Runners will cross Pilgrim Road multiple times; a person will assist with crossings but will not stop road traffic. Timing is recorded through UltraSignup and results are published there. Awards go to the top athlete in each distance and additional prizes are distributed randomly. Keweenaw Ultra Marathon Club shirts are sold on race day for $20.
