Kettlewell Anniversary Fell Race
The Kettlewell Anniversary Fell Race is a single lap fell race of 5 Miles around Kettlewell. The route is mainly on tracks and grass with some potentially boggy sections in wet weather. The course profile is hilly, with notable climbs to the crest of the fell and equally fast descents on the return sections.
The route runs clockwise from the start on the track at grid reference SD 966723, follows a footpath off the main track for the first climb, then descends toward Arncliffe before returning along a footpath and wood edge to Kettlewell. A final climb takes runners over the fell and back down past Moor End Farm along a farm track to the finish by the start location.
The event was established in 2009 to mark the 25th anniversary of Abbey Runners and has been organised by North Leeds Fell Runners since 2014. Entry is limited to 100 places. Race licence is not applicable and the course is not suitable for wheelchairs.
Facilities are minimal: no event-provided water, distance markers, changing facilities, showers or baggage storage. Race headquarters are at Kettlewell Village Hall and public toilets are available at the Kettlewell car park. Entry fees are shown as £6 for EA-affiliated and £8 for non-affiliated runners, with a higher fee indicated for on-the-day entries if places remain.
There is a prize for the first man and the first woman to catch the rat runner; the rat must be returned to a race official to claim the prize. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
