Overview

Dartford Orienteers are running a Kent Orienteering League event at Shoreham Woods. The terrain includes mainly runnable forest and areas of rough open, with pits and depressions and some large trees. The area is shared with walkers, dog walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers. There are some steep, slippery slopes, several low fences that are hard to cross, and livestock in open areas. Registration is online only in advance. Participants must adhere to the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

Courses and practical information

  • Yellow 2.5 km - controls very easy, mostly on paths.
  • Orange 3.0 km - controls on or near paths with some route choice.
  • Green 4.5 km - controls away from paths, more navigational challenge.
  • Blue 6.5 km - technically the hardest course offered.

Score course: 21 controls, visit as many as possible in one hour; controls split into easy, moderate and difficult groups.

Entry fees: Seniors £7/£9, Juniors £3/£4; lower fees apply to British Orienteering members. Group entry one map and one entry for £10; extra maps may be available for £1 each. Electronic punching: standard hire £1, contactless version £2.50. The event centre is at Shacklands Road Car Park; toilets are available there and the nearest refreshments are less than 1 km away at Polhill Garden Centre. Trail runs nearby

Run through scenic Epping Forest on Saturday 25 October 2025 with a Half Marathon or 10K on varied natural trails. Chip timed, fully marked and dog friendly with aid stations and a finisher medal.

Enjoy a 60 minute score orienteering course through woodland and open slopes at Trosley Country Park on the North Downs. Choose from 20 controls, hunt bonus dumbbells and race the clock in scenic terrain.

Run the Leigh on Sea after dark 10k or 5k on 2 November 2025, with a juniors 5k for ages 11 to 15. Headtorches are mandatory, fancy dress is encouraged and every finisher gets a quirky not medal while proceeds benefit Southend YMCA.

Navigate ancient woodland, parkland and meadows at Dagnam Park in the HAVOC Regional and SWELL orienteering event with waterproof maps and SI timing. Courses suit beginners to experienced orienteers and help and coaching are available.

Take part in a woodland night score at Westerham: 60 minute navigation to collect as many 10 point controls as you can from 20 locations. Limited entries, book online in advance; apres and prize giving at The Carpenters Arms.

Scenic timed loop around Canvey Island via sea wall and coastal path, starting and ending at Waterside Farm Leisure Centre. Counterclockwise, self supported and with a pub check in near 10k for a top up and friendly course sweep.
