Icicles On The Moon Trail Run
Icicles On The Moon is a winter night trail running event held at Zindel Park in McElhattan, Pennsylvania. The event takes place utilizing the network of trails around the local reservoir. Because this is a night race, all participants are required to wear a headlamp. The event is held regardless of winter weather conditions.
The race offers two distinct distances:
- 7 Miles
- 5 km
The 7 Mile course begins at the Zindel caretaker house and follows the road to the reservoir. Participants cross a metal footbridge and use the Final Cut and Gut Check trails to reach the top. From there, the route follows the Outer Limits trail to Pine Loganton Road, where an aid station is located in the parking lot. The return path follows Spring Run down to the Gorge Trail, which includes five stream crossings, before finishing via Black Diamond and Creekside Trail.
The 5 km course follows the same initial path as the longer route until the top of Gut Check. It features one short steep climb followed by mostly flat terrain. This course crosses a bridge over McElhattan Run and connects to the Gorge Trail, Black Diamond, and Creekside Trail to reach the finish line.
Registration is capped at the first 250 participants. The event is open to runners, hikers, and walkers. Registration typically opens in July via Ultrasignup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
