Ice Age Trail 50
The Ice Age Trail 50 is one of the oldest continuously running ultramarathons in the United States. The course passes through dense deciduous forest and tall pines, over rocky ridges and across open prairies, and features lakes, kettles, kames, erratics and other landforms left when glaciers retreated from Wisconsin more than 10,000 years ago.
Race distances include:
- 50 miles
- 50K
- Half Marathon
Registration for the 2026 races opens on December 14, 2025, with an early registration opportunity on December 6 for specified eligible groups. The races typically sell out within hours. A wait list is maintained and historically every wait-listed 50 mile and 50K runner has been given the opportunity to run on race day. Refunds and bib transfers are not allowed. Deferrals are accepted until February 20, 2026; deferrals are awarded for one year.
Pre-race training runs are scheduled on April 18 (35 miles) and April 25 (19 miles); courses will be flagged and a minimalist aid station will be provided. These runs are free but parking in the Nordic lot requires a state park sticker. Daily and annual park pass fees apply.
On race day pacers are not allowed and dogs are discouraged on course due to narrow single track. Dogs are permitted in the finish area if leashed and kept off the course. Medical personnel from Mercy South Hospital will be available at the start and finish area. Cups for post race beer are not provided; souvenir pint glasses will be available for purchase. Live tracking is not available. Results are posted race night on MTech Results. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
