Ice Age Trail 50

The Ice Age Trail 50 is a set of trail races held on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The event began in the 1980s to bring the ultrarunning scene to the Midwest and is among the longer-running ultras in the country.

The courses run through varied Wisconsin terrain, including dense deciduous forest, tall pines, rocky ridges and open prairie. Runners pass lakes, kettles, kames, erratics and other landforms left when glaciers retreated from Wisconsin more than 10,000 years ago.

Event distances include:

  • 50 miles
  • 50K
  • Half marathon

Race operations are noted for course marking, staffed aid stations and a post race barbecue with food and beer. Training runs were scheduled in April 2026. The 2026 Ice Age Trail races were listed as sold out, with wait lists for entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
