Kettle Moraine

The Kettle Moraine event is an ultra marathon held in LaGrange, Wisconsin. Established in 1996, it is recognized as one of the oldest 100 mile races in the United States. The course consists of 100% trail, with the exception of several road crossings. A significant portion of the route, approximately 65 miles, takes place on the Wisconsin Ice Age Trail.

Participants can choose from several distance options:

  • 100 Miler
  • 100K
  • 50K
  • 38 Miler
  • 100M Relay (four-person team)

Entry into the event is managed through a lottery system held in December, with a subsequent waitlist for those not selected. Priority registration is offered to individuals who volunteered at the previous year's event. A specific requirement for all participants is the completion of 8 hours of volunteer service within their local community, such as trail maintenance or assisting at other races.

The 100 Miler distance serves as a qualifying race for the Western States 100, provided runners finish within a 30-hour time limit. Every vehicle entering the area is required to display a Wisconsin IDNR parking sticker; a pass is included with the race entry and distributed during packet pickup. The event does not offer refunds or transfers, though specific rollover credits are available for those who cancel within designated timeframes before the race.
