HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon - November 7, 2026

The HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon is a single-loop 13.1-mile trail race near Lone Tree, Colorado. The course follows the Douglas County East/West Trail and the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Wilderness Area, and is composed entirely of dirt, gravel, and singletrack. The route includes hills and offers expansive Front Range views and opportunities to spot wildlife.

Course support includes four aid stations supplying water and electrolytes. To reduce waste and protect the wilderness area, participants are strongly encouraged to carry personal hydration in keeping with a Leave No Trace commitment. The race enforces two cut-off checkpoints: one near Grigs Rd Pavilion at approximately 8.9 miles with a limit of 2 hours 35 minutes from the last corral start, and a finish-line cut-off of 3 hours 50 minutes from the last corral start. Dogs and strollers are strictly prohibited for safety and wildlife protection.

All registered participants receive a long sleeve technical race shirt, a custom race bib, a custom finisher medal, a pancake breakfast provided by Flippin' Flapjacks, and post-race beers compliments of Living the Dream Brewing. A secure bag check is available at the start/finish for registered participants. Packet pickup typically occurs in the week before the race, with timing bibs and race swag available at the start area on race morning. Free parking is provided at Rocky Heights Middle School and Rock Canyon High School; parking is limited. Race-day registration is available online only and no cash is accepted.
