Course Information
The Hook Mountain Ultra is a 50-mile and 27-mile trail race. The event is sanctioned by USATF and organized by trail runners. Athletes can complete the full course for an official finisher listing, or they can run a single loop.
The course features a combination of terrain, including climbs, exposed ridges, winding singletrack, river views, gravel paths, and descents. The 50-mile event has approximately 9,700 feet of total elevation gain, and the 27-mile marathon has approximately 4,900 feet.
Both distances start with a 4-mile out-and-back section. After that, runners enter a series of 11.5-mile loops starting and finishing at the Nyack Beach State Park trailhead.

Each loop begins with a 1.6-mile climb to the summit of Hook Mountain. The route uses the Hudson River bike path, the Summit Trail (White Blaze), the Long Path Trail (Aqua Blaze), and the Treason Trail (White Blaze). There is one road crossing per loop on Landing Road. The total cut-off time for the 50-mile race is 14 hours, with an additional cut-off at mile 27 of 7 hours. The marathon cut-off is 14 hours.
Event Details
There are three aid stations on the 11.5-mile loop, positioned every 3 to 4.5 miles. They provide water, sports drink, and energy gels. Runners can store a personal drop bag at the first aid station. There are also bathrooms and a water fountain at the Nyack Beach parking lot.
Parking for the event is available at the Marydell Retreat Center, located a quarter-mile from the Nyack Beach State Park entrance. Overnight lodging at the retreat center may be available for the race weekend. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
