Event Overview
The Highland Fling is a 53-mile (85 km) point-to-point trail ultramarathon. It follows the southern section of Scotland's West Highland Way through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, from Milngavie to Tyndrum. The 2026 race is scheduled for Saturday, 29 August.
Course Details
The route is 53 miles long with 2300m of ascent and 2100m of descent. The terrain is 90% trail and 10% road. The course is waymarked, so navigation is not required.
Entry Requirements
Entry requires prior completion of an ultramarathon, a road marathon, or a trail marathon after 1 January 2024. For a road marathon, the finish time must be under 5 hours. Trail marathons and ultramarathons have no time limit. Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day, with no upper age limit.

Participants must carry mandatory kit, including an emergency foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a headlamp, and a charged mobile phone. External support runners or pacers are not allowed. Littering is prohibited.
Refund Policy
A full refund (minus a £5 fee) is available within a 14-day cooling-off period. A 50% refund is available until 1 July 2026. After that date, no refunds are given. Deferrals are only available for pregnancy or adoption, and race entries cannot be transferred to other runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
