Highland Fling 53 mile Ultra Trail Marathon
The Highland Fling is a 53 mile (85 km) point to point trail ultramarathon along the southern section of the West Highland Way through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, running from Milngavie to Tyndrum. The route is waymarked and equipped with live chip timing.
Race metrics include approximately 2300 m of ascent and 2100 m of descent, with around 90% trail and 10% road surfaces. A drop bag system is provided with three food drop bags allowed. Free luggage transport is available from the start to the finish.
On-site services at the finish include showers, home-made food and drinks, heated marquees, post-race massage, and official event photos. An afterparty is held in a marquee with a donation bar and participants may bring their own drinks. Event buses run to and from the race start and finish for an extra cost.
Entry requires completion after 1 January 2024 of an ultramarathon, a trail marathon, or a road marathon (road marathon finish time must be under five hours unless completed as part of an Ironman). Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. The entry fee is listed as £125 and the organisers operate an active gender entry system with allocations for women, men and nonbinary runners.
Mandatory kit includes an emergency foil blanket, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a headtorch, and a charged mobile phone. External support, pacers and dogs are not allowed. The race supports the charity Improving Lives and is listed as a UTMB qualifier. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
