Dunoon Ultra Marathon and Relay

The Dunoon Ultra Marathon marks its 10th anniversary in 2026. This trail event takes place in Argyll, Scotland, offering participants a point-to-point journey through local landscapes. The race begins at Benmore Gardens and concludes at the Dunoon Pier.

Participants can choose between two main formats:

  • Solo Ultra: A full distance trail race for individuals aged 20 and over.
  • Relay: A team event for three runners aged 18 and over, where members are responsible for their own transport to changeover points.

The exact course distance varies due to local conditions; previous routes have measured between 48.63 km and 54.58 km, with total elevation gains exceeding 1,000 meters. The terrain includes steep climbs, descents, and flat sections. Relay legs vary from approximately 13 km to 24 km.

The event features a fully signposted route with marshals and two checkpoints providing refreshments and access to dropbags. A strict cut-off time is enforced at the second checkpoint, occurring 6 hours and 30 minutes after the start. Required safety equipment must be carried by all participants.

To reach the event, visitors can use ferry services from Gourock to Dunoon or McInroy’s Point to Hunter’s Quay. Free bus transport is provided for runners from Dunoon Pier to the starting line at Benmore Gardens. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
