Hathersage Hibernator

Hathersage, United Kingdom • 17 Jan 2026

Event

Hathersage Hibernator is a new mid-winter pairs fell race held in January 2026 in the Peak District. The event starts and finishes at Hathersage Primary School. It is organised as a pairs race with a minimum age of 16. Entry is by pre-entry only; the fee is £15 per person (£30 per pair). There is no entry on the day. The race has a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA.

Course and rules

The route is a smidge under 24 km with approximately 800 m of ascent and heads north from the start. The course is marshalled at about 5 km intervals; pairs must stay together and remain within 10 m of each other for safety and support. Access crosses open access land and some areas that are not on public rights of way, so dogs are not allowed on the start/finish field or the course. Because it is a winter event, competitors are required to carry a comprehensive kit list aligned with FRA recommendations; kit checks will be carried out in pairs at the start and finish. A previous test event experienced heavy snowfall that prevented some marshals reaching their stations. If weather makes the race unsafe, organisers may delay the race by 24 hours.
