The Hark the Herald race returns for its 37th annual running on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Angel Island State Park near Belvedere Tiburon, CA. The event is limited to 400 participants. Distances offered:

  • Half Marathon - two loops of the island course.
  • 10K - single loop, approximately 6.5 miles.

Registration prices are inclusive of the mandatory ferry fee. Youth entries are offered at a lower rate. Bib numbers are mailed beginning two weeks before the event; unreceived bibs can be picked up on the morning of the race.

Course and logistics

The course is a hilly loop that circumnavigates Angel Island and offers views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Alcatraz Island, the East Bay and Marin County. The course will be marked with orange ribbon at trail crossings and turns. There are no aid stations on the course; aid will be available before the second loop for Half Marathon participants. Food and drink are available at the finish. Hikers and walkers are welcome in the 10K.

Course cut-off is 3.5 hours (16:00 min/mile pace for the Half Marathon; 35:00 min/mile for the 10K). Half Marathoners must complete the first loop within 1 hour 30 minutes. Headphones and other audio devices are not allowed. Athletes must take the special chartered ferry from the Tiburon ferry dock to participate; return ferries leave Angel Island hourly at 20 minutes past the hour, except 12:20 PM.
