Harewood Forest Trail Race
The Harewood Forest Trail Race is an annual spring event held in Harewood Forest in the Test Valley. Proceeds from the event support the Wherwell Playing Fields Association and Wherwell School PTA. The event includes multiple race formats and a children's fun run.
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Canicross
Entry is by pre-registration only and closes at 10pm on the day before the event. There are no entries on the day except for the children's fun run, which has a separate fee. Participants must be at least 12 years old for the 10 km and at least 7 years old for the 5 km. All 5 km entrants under 11 years must be accompanied on the route by a responsible adult who has their own entry. Children of any age may take part in the childrens' event and may be accompanied by an adult who should peel off before the finish funnel.
Routes are undulating and hilly with a mix of trail, tarmac, dirt and single track. The course passes through fields and bluebell woods and includes obstacles such as overhanging trees, mud, holes and ruts. There is a single road crossing on the 5 km and 10 km route; marshals will be present and the course is marked with kilometre markers, tape, signs and flags.
Dogs may run only if entered and owners must carry bags, water, use appropriate harnesses and have public liability insurance. If effective temperature and humidity reach 18 degrees Celsius or higher, dogs will not be permitted to run. Runners with dogs start in a separate wave and the race director's decision is final.
Facilities at race headquarters include toilets, first aid on the course and finish area, parking on the sports field and post race refreshments. The event is cupless so participants should bring their own cup or bottle. There is no bag drop and finishers are eligible for prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
