Salisbury Plain Winter Edition
The Salisbury Plain Winter Edition is a winter trail marathon and half marathon held across Salisbury Plain. The organiser describes it as "proper winter trail running," with a route that mixes established footpaths, byways and hard-packed tracks through open countryside. Runners should expect climbs, exposed sections and changeable ground underfoot.
The course is fully marked the day before the event and marshals will be placed at key road crossings. Aid stations along the route provide water, juice, cola and a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. An experienced medical and safety team supports the event and results are recorded by chip timing. Every finisher receives a medal and prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each distance.
Practical details noted by the organiser include parking near the registration address with event staff on site, portable toilets at race HQ, and pre-race information that will include registration times and race HQ location. Trail running shoes with good grip are strongly recommended because December conditions on Salisbury Plain can include wind, rain, mud and cold. Dogs are permitted if kept on a lead and runners who wear headphones must remain aware of their surroundings.
